How to interpret the result

A high score means you handled this small mix; it does not predict an official pass. Twelve questions cannot cover the road code, and seeing an explanation once is not the same as being able to apply it to a different diagram under test conditions.

A missed answer is more useful than a lucky correct one. Write the topic down, find the relevant section of the official road code, and explain the rule aloud without looking. Then change one fact in the scenario: wet instead of dry, a T-intersection instead of a crossroad, or a vehicle going straight instead of turning. If your answer changes, you should be able to say exactly why.

What the real test is like

NZTA's learner theory test is computer-based and multiple-choice. It contains 35 questions. The pass threshold is 32 for a car or motorcycle test and 33 for a heavy-vehicle test. You sit it as part of the learner-licence application at a driver licensing agent, not on KiwiVehicle.

Questions come from the current road code. Some licence types also have specialist questions; for example, motorcycle and heavy-vehicle applicants need the code for that vehicle type. NZTA can update questions, so a screenshot pack with no date or source is a poor study base.

A practical study loop

1. Read one road-code topic with its diagrams.
2. Close it and write the rule from memory.
3. Answer mixed questions rather than repeating one chapter in order.
4. Review every miss and every guess.
5. Use the rule while travelling as a passenger: call out who gives way and why.
