What we are not

We are not NZTA Waka Kotahi. We are not the New Zealand Automobile Association, VTNZ, the New Zealand Police, or any department, agency or contractor of the New Zealand Government. We have no agreement, partnership or accreditation with any of them, and nothing on this site should be read as official.

The practical consequence matters more than the legal one. We hold no records and can reach none. We cannot see whether your warrant is current, cannot correct a registered person entry, cannot cancel or reduce an infringement, cannot bring a test booking forward and cannot tell you where your paperwork has got to. Anyone who can do those things works inside the official system, and getting to them is usually the point of the page you are reading.

Where official information contradicts something here, the official source wins. We would rather you trusted NZTA over us and told us we were wrong.

The one promise that shapes everything else

There is no lookup form anywhere on this site.

We never ask for a plate number, a driver licence number, a VIN, a date of birth or a photograph of any document. We do not collect them, store them or pass them to anyone, because we never take them in the first place. Every check we explain — rego, WoF, RUC, stolen vehicle, registered person — is explained here and then handed off to the official system, which opens separately and takes your details itself.

This is a deliberate refusal rather than a technical limitation. Think about who is on these pages: someone holding a fine they cannot afford, someone whose rego expired while they were in hospital, someone about to hand over four thousand dollars for a used car. That person is frightened, in a hurry, and will type almost anything into a box that promises an answer. That is precisely why a data-harvesting site targets them, and precisely why we decline to be one.

The interactive tools we do publish, such as the WoF due date calculator, run entirely inside your browser. Nothing you type is sent anywhere, which means we could not tell you what you entered even if we wanted to. Our privacy policy sets out the whole picture.

Who writes this

A collective editorial team. There is no single named author, no invented industry veteran and no stock photograph of a mechanic. We would rather be judged on a published method than on a biography, so the method is public: every page names the official sources it rests on, carries the date those sources were last checked, and separates national rules from practice that varies by provider or region. Our editorial policy explains how that works, including the specific things we refuse to publish — opening hours, phone numbers, fees, processing times and outage restoration times — and why publishing them confidently would do more harm than leaving the space empty.

About paying anyone to fix this for you

How the site is funded

Advertising, primarily Google AdSense. That is the whole model: the pages are free, there is no subscription, no paywall and nothing to sign up for.

Advertising is kept separate from editorial work. No advertiser commissions, reviews or approves a page, none of them sees anything before publication, and we do not publish sponsored articles or paid links inside informational pages. Ads are served by Google and its partners in defined slots, and they are chosen by that system rather than by us. If an ad on one of our pages offers to sort out your rego or your fine for a fee, treat it exactly as you would treat that offer anywhere else on the internet: as a scam, and tell us about it.

Telling us we got it wrong

Corrections are the fastest way to make this site better, and the ones that could send someone to the wrong place or cost them a fine go to the front of the queue. Write to [email protected], tell us the page and what is wrong, and please do not include your plate, licence number or any identity document — we do not want them and cannot use them.
