Driver licensing agents in Auckland
Use NZTA's Auckland agent finder and filter by the service, not only the nearest suburb. Administration, theory tests, class 1 practical tests, motorcycle/heavy tests and overseas conversions are not offered at every site or every hour. Verified examples include AA Albert Street, 50 Albert Street, VTNZ Westgate, 2–6 Pinot Lane, and VTNZ Wiri, 103 Roscommon Road. Recheck the live listing on the day you travel.
Auckland has many licensing sites, but they are not interchangeable. A counter that can renew a photo licence may not run the theory test at the time you arrive; a practical-test departure site may not process an overseas conversion; and a heavy or motorcycle test can be limited to selected locations or offered on demand.
Start with the NZTA service list
Use the official Auckland agent finder. Each entry uses service labels such as administration, theory, class 1 restricted/full, heavy, class 6 and on-road safety. Read the whole entry, including test or conversion hours, rather than assuming the public branch hours apply to every service.
Examples verified on 12 August 2026:
- AA Albert Street — 50 Albert Street, Auckland Central. Listed for driver-licence administration and theory, with practical-test services identified in the official entry.
- VTNZ Westgate — 2–6 Pinot Lane, Westgate. Listed for administration, theory and several practical classes, including selected heavy and motorcycle services.
- VTNZ Wiri — 103 Roscommon Road, Wiri, Manukau. Listed for administration, theory and class 1 practical testing.
These are useful anchors, not a complete directory. The live NZTA list contains the current network and is the source to use for the exact service.
Do not travel from one side of Auckland because a map result says “AA” or “VTNZ”. Open the NZTA entry and confirm the transaction, class, test hours and any appointment note. Branch and testing hours can differ.
Match the task to the site
For a new learner, renewal, replacement, endorsement or details update, look for administration and then check the transaction's document checklist.
For a theory test, look for Theory and its stated testing hours. The official test is part of the learner application; bring the required identity and eyesight evidence as well as preparation for the questions.
For a practical test, book the exact class through the official system. The departure point is the booked testing site, not any convenient licensing counter. Class 2–5 and class 6 availability varies, and an on-demand service can need a separate request.
For an overseas conversion, use the specialist list and appointment instructions. High demand can produce booking requirements that do not apply to an ordinary renewal.
Before leaving home
Confirm the appointment or service, identity documents, original translations where required, medical or eyesight evidence, current fee and how payment is accepted. For a practical test, check the vehicle's WoF, rego, tyres, lights and fuel and arrive early enough for the pre-test process.
